“Breaking News: Sinn Féin Surges to 26% in Latest Irish Times Poll, Fine Gael Support Drops 3%”

Irish Times poll: Sinn Féin back on top at 26% as Fine Gael support slides 3%

Sinn Féin has reclaimed its status as the most favored party in the Republic, marking a significant shift in public sentiment away from the Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael-Independent Coalition. The recent Irish Times/Ipsos B&A opinion poll reveals a notable surge in support for Sinn Féin following a period of uncertainty surrounding the new Government’s formation. This resurgence places Sinn Féin at the forefront of public approval, with 26 percent support, up by six points. In contrast, Fianna Fáil stands at 22 percent (up one), and Fine Gael at 16 percent (down three), according to the latest polling data.

The dissatisfaction with the current Coalition is palpable, as a majority of voters express disapproval of the agreement struck with Independent Michael Lowry. The dissatisfaction extends further, with only 39 percent of respondents expressing satisfaction with the return of the Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael-led Coalition. Additionally, the choice to partner with Regional Independents lacks enthusiasm among voters, as 54 percent indicate a preference for alternative coalition partners.

Despite Taoiseach Micheál Martin maintaining a 45 percent satisfaction rating, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has seen a notable increase in approval, now at 37 percent. These sentiments underscore a shifting political landscape and a growing discontent with the current governing arrangements. The poll, conducted face-to-face with 1,200 adults, provides a snapshot of public opinion that reflects a nuanced and evolving political climate in the Republic.
