NASA has implemented a directive requiring its employees, contractors, and grantees to eliminate all pronouns from their signatures, as revealed in an internal email obtained by NPR. This decision follows various executive orders, including one titled “Defending women from gender ideology and extremism and restoring biological truth to the federal government,” signed by President Trump on his inauguration day. The order mandates agencies to cease federal funding for gender ideology.
The email instructs users to remove pronouns from their display names in Microsoft Outlook and Teams, with the system automatically deleting any existing pronouns. Furthermore, NASA has introduced a standard signature block for all nasa.gov email addresses, prohibiting any additional embellishments.
This action reflects NASA’s compliance with the White House’s directives to regulate content within government systems. Reports from the media outlet 404 media indicate that NASA personnel were instructed to eliminate specific words from public websites, such as “Indigenous people” and any content targeting women. Additionally, NASA’s acting administrator had previously announced the termination of all Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs due to concerns about division, wastage of taxpayer funds, and discrimination.
As of now, NASA’s press office has not provided a comment on these recent developments.
