The movement, which gained prominence by advocating for a rapid transition away from fossil fuels and job creation, accuses President Trump of prioritizing oil interests over the well-being of ordinary citizens.

Under the banner “End the Oligarchy, Save Our Futures,” the Sunrise Movement aims to rally young people nationwide to demand that polluters, not the public, bear the costs of addressing climate change. This initiative seeks to challenge the influence of big oil in politics and promote the passage of “climate superfund” bills that hold fossil fuel companies financially responsible for climate damage.

By urging down-ballot candidates to reject oil money and support such legislation, Sunrise hopes to mobilize a broad coalition, including conservatives concerned about corruption and fiscal responsibility. The campaign, which will kick off with a virtual event featuring prominent figures like Rep. Ro Khanna and actor Hannah Einbender, aims to reframe climate action as a nonpartisan issue with tangible impacts on communities across the country.

Despite facing legal challenges and opposition from the Trump administration, Sunrise remains optimistic about the potential for grassroots organizing to bring about meaningful change. By engaging in disruptive protests and building momentum for a prospective general strike in 2028, the organization is determined to revitalize the youth climate movement and hold elected officials accountable for prioritizing the interests of the people over powerful corporations.
