“Rescue Mission: Lid Removed from Bear’s Neck After Two Years in the US”

Michigan wildlife experts successfully rescued a black bear that had a large lid stuck around its neck for two years. Despite the ordeal, the bear managed to survive and maintain a better condition than expected. The bear was first spotted as a cub in 2023 with the lid, prompting the Department of Natural Resources to track and rescue it. After appearing on a camera in late May still wearing the lid, the DNR set a trap, anesthetized the bear, and removed the lid on 3 June before the bear wandered off upon waking up. The cause of how the lid got stuck remains unknown, although regulations require bear baiting barrels to have large enough holes to prevent such incidents. Surprisingly, the 110-lb bear endured multiple winters with the uncomfortable accessory, showcasing its resilience and adaptability. Cody Norton, the state bear specialist, expressed his satisfaction at the bear’s ability to survive and thrive in spite of the challenging circumstances. This heartwarming story highlights the dedication of wildlife experts and the remarkable resilience of nature’s creatures in the face of adversity.
