Arab leaders are convening in Cairo to consider Egypt’s counterproposal to President Trump’s controversial plan to depopulate Gaza and turn it into a luxurious beach destination. The alternative plan involves relocating Palestinians within Gaza to safe areas with mobile homes and shelters while rebuilding the cities, with Hamas temporarily relinquishing power to an independent administration until the Palestinian Authority can resume control.
In a compassionate move, 29 children from Gaza have been evacuated to Jordan for medical treatment, responding to Jordan’s King Abdullah II’s offer to host 2,000 children for medical care following Trump’s resettlement suggestion for Palestinian refugees. This humanitarian initiative aims to address the urgent medical needs of children in Gaza, with Jordan committing to bringing the children in batches accompanied by family members.
Meanwhile, amidst the uncertainty of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, Arab leaders are expected to endorse the counterproposal to Trump’s Gaza plan, crucially supported by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Israel, on the other hand, is backing a different U.S. proposal for the ceasefire and the release of hostages taken during a previous attack by Hamas. The situation remains tense, with Israel imposing restrictions on essential supplies to Gaza in an effort to pressure Hamas into accepting the new proposal, raising concerns about a potential escalation of hostilities.
