In Slovenia, police are investigating the disappearance of a bronze statue of U.S. first lady Melania Trump from her hometown. The life-size sculpture, unveiled in 2020 during President Donald Trump’s first term near Sevnica, replaced a wooden statue that was set on fire earlier that year. Police spokeswoman Alenka Drenik Rangus confirmed the theft of the statue and stated that authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify those responsible. Reports suggest that the bronze replica was sawed off at the ankles and taken away. The original wooden statue, crafted from a linden tree trunk, depicted Melania Trump in a pale blue dress reminiscent of her attire at the 2017 presidential inauguration. Unlike the wooden statue, the bronze replica bears no obvious resemblance to the first lady. This incident follows the previous vandalism of the wooden statue in July 2020. The community and authorities are working together to address this act of theft and preserve public art in the region.
