An immigrant man, Ramón Morales Reyes, falsely accused of threatening President Donald Trump, has been granted release on bond by an immigration judge in Wisconsin. Reyes, who was framed for a threatening letter despite not speaking English well, was revealed to be a victim of a violent attack in 2023. The alleged attacker, Demetric D. Scott, forged the letter to manipulate his case, as Reyes was set to testify against him in an upcoming trial.

Judge Carla Espinoza set Reyes’ bond at $7,500, stating that he poses no danger to the community. Reyes, a 54-year-old dishwasher and father of three U.S. citizen children, had been detained by immigration agents while dropping off his child at school. Despite being in the U.S. without legal permission, he applied for a U visa due to being a crime victim, a process that can take years.

While the Department of Homeland Security continues to pursue an immigration case against Reyes for repeatedly reentering the U.S. without a visa, his attorney, Cain Oulahan, emphasized his client’s innocence and called for a public correction regarding the misinformation spread about him. Reyes’ daughter, Anna Morales, spoke out in support of her father, highlighting his good character and the unjust situation he has found himself in.

Meanwhile, a hearing for Scott, facing charges related to the forged letter, has been rescheduled, with Reyes’ exoneration shedding light on the truth behind the fabricated accusations.
