Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, hundreds of Americans have fled Iran, according to an internal State Department report. The report highlights the risks faced by US citizens in Iran as President Donald Trump considers military action. Unlike in Israel, where transportation options are being established for American citizens, no such options exist for those in Iran due to the lack of a US diplomatic presence. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that direct US government-assisted departure from Iran is not anticipated.
The situation report reveals that Americans trying to leave Iran may encounter checkpoints and questioning from authorities, with reports of delays and harassment along exit routes. Two Americans were reportedly detained while attempting to depart the country. Concerns have been raised about the lack of support from the State Department and the need for pressure on Iran’s neighboring countries to facilitate Americans’ departure.
More than 25,000 individuals have sought information from the State Department regarding the situation in Israel, the West Bank, and Iran. The department has launched a crisis intake form for Americans in Israel and Iran seeking guidance on leaving these countries. US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee mentioned efforts to arrange evacuation options, including military, commercial, charter flights, and cruise ships. Meanwhile, Trump has initiated a two-week negotiation period before deciding on potential strikes against Iran, aiming to restart talks that had stalled during Israel’s recent military actions.
