A recent CNN poll conducted by SSRS reveals that public opinion on Donald Trump’s presidency remains predominantly negative as he prepares for his first formal address to Congress since returning to office. The survey indicates that Trump’s performance is viewed negatively across various metrics, with 52% disapproving and 48% approving of his handling of the job, consistent with mid-February polling. Notably, Trump enjoys strong support among Republicans (90% approval) but faces significant disapproval from Democrats (90% disapproval) and independents (59% disapproval).

Although Trump’s approval rating stands at 48% ahead of his upcoming address, indicating a slight increase compared to 2017, the majority of Americans are skeptical about his policy proposals. More respondents believe Trump’s policies are leading the country in the wrong direction (45%) rather than the right one (39%). Furthermore, a majority feels that Trump has not focused enough on the nation’s most pressing issues (52% share this sentiment).

Demographically, Trump’s approval ratings remain divisive, with younger adults, Hispanic and Black adults, and women showing predominantly negative views. Despite these trends, opinions on Trump’s policies among different demographic groups are not firmly established, with a significant portion expressing uncertainty.

The CNN Poll conducted by SSRS from February 24-28 involved 2,212 adults and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points. The findings suggest a complex landscape of public sentiment towards Trump’s presidency, with varying degrees of approval and skepticism across different segments of the population.
