The Utah Mammoth, formerly known as the Utah Hockey Club, has been unveiled as the new permanent name of the NHL team in Salt Lake City. Owners Ryan and Ashley Smith expressed their commitment to building the team in collaboration with the people of Utah, as reflected in the community’s choice of the Mammoth brand. The team’s logo pays homage to the state’s mountains and features a curved tusk forming a “U,” representing the unstoppable force they aim to create together.
The Mammoth’s rebranding coincides with significant developments for the team, including holding the fourth pick in the draft, arena renovations, and ample salary cap space for potential roster improvements. Bolstered by promising young talent like captain Clayton Keller and emerging stars Logan Cooley and Karel Vejmelka, along with experienced players like Mikhail Sergachev, the Mammoth is poised to compete for a playoff spot in the upcoming season.
This transformation comes shortly after the Smith Entertainment group acquired the team, previously the Arizona Coyotes, and relocated them to Salt Lake City. The Coyotes’ move marks a new chapter in the team’s history, following their tenure in Phoenix since 1996. The Utah Mammoth’s rebranding symbolizes a fresh start and a shared vision of success between the team and the passionate hockey community in Utah.
