Florida State University has canceled all home athletic events in response to a shooting on the Tallahassee campus that resulted in one fatality and six injuries. Following the incident, a suspect has been taken into custody, and the university issued a shelter-in-place order for individuals on campus as law enforcement conducted a search of buildings. The shooting occurred after police received an active shooter call from the student union area around noon. As a result of the tragic event, one person is in critical condition, while five others are in serious condition according to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.

In light of the situation, FSU has suspended classes and business operations on the main campus through Friday. This decision led to the cancellation of various sporting events, including baseball games against Virginia, softball games against Georgia Tech, and the football team’s spring practices. Despite the cancellations, the FSU men’s tennis team continued to compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament against Louisville in North Carolina. The university’s response reflects a commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its students, faculty, and staff in the face of such a tragic event.
