In a bizarre turn of events, a runaway kangaroo named Sheila caused quite a commotion in Alabama as she hopped along Interstate 85 in Macon County, prompting state troopers to temporarily shut down both sides of the interstate for the safety of motorists. The unexpected appearance of the marsupial led to traffic delays until the kangaroo’s owner and law enforcement were able to capture her.
Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson captured the capture of the kangaroo in a Facebook live video, expressing disbelief at the unusual situation unfolding before him. The kangaroo, named Sheila, had escaped from her enclosure but was safely tranquilized and returned home by her owner, Patrick Starr. Starr reassured that Sheila was unharmed and receiving care from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Starr described Sheila as a beloved pet and shared that she is usually a gentle and friendly companion. The incident brought a moment of unexpected excitement to the area, with Starr expressing gratitude for Sheila’s safe return and the community’s cooperation during the unusual ordeal. The kangaroo’s escapade serves as a reminder of the unexpected events that can unfold, even on a routine day in Alabama.
