New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr faced a one-game suspension and a fine from Major League Baseball due to his ejection during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays and a breach of MLB’s social media policy. The decision was announced by MLB senior vice president of on-field operations Michael Hill. Chisholm immediately appealed the penalties, allowing him to continue playing until a resolution was reached, and he was included in the lineup for the next game of the series.
The ejection occurred in the seventh inning when plate umpire John Bacon ejected Chisholm for disputing a called third strike on a full-count pitch. This marked Chisholm’s fifth career ejection and the first one with the Yankees. Following his ejection, Chisholm took to social media to express his frustration with a post on his X account, which was later deleted.
MLB’s regulations strictly forbid the use of electronic devices during games, with the social media policy specifically prohibiting content that questions the impartiality of or disparages a major league umpire. Chisholm acknowledged his emotional response after the game, admitting that he should have handled the situation better and expressing disappointment in himself for losing his composure. Despite being a fierce competitor, he recognized the need to control his emotions and conduct himself more appropriately in future situations.
