An 18-year-old Leaving Cert student tragically passed away after her car collided with a wall and entered a river in Co Tipperary. The incident occurred at Kilaldry Bridge in Kilmoyler during the early hours of the morning. Authorities, including Gardaí, a sub-aqua team, and Tipperary Fire and Rescue, were notified when the student did not return home to Clonmel. The car, a Ford Fiesta, had reportedly struck a low wall before ending up in the Aherlow river.
A search led by a Garda sub-aqua team located the student’s body in the river at 4.45am. Despite efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was transferred to Tipperary University Hospital for a postmortem examination. The road from the Lady Gregory Pub on the N24 Cahir – Bansha Road to Kilmoyler has been closed for a technical examination by the authorities.
Gardaí are urging any witnesses who were in the vicinity at the time of the incident to come forward and provide information by contacting Cahir Garda station. This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance while driving.
